On 18 June 1928, Claudio Corti was born in Olginate (Lc), a Lombard mountaineer known for his dramatic ascent of the north face of the Eiger, which culminated in a spectacular rescue operation. The story of this event is admirably recounted by Jack Olsen in his book "Climbing to Hell".
